What Is Premature Ejaculation?

Premature Ejaculation is one of the most common forms of sexual dysfunction in males.  There are disagreements as to the true definition of P.E.  Some professionals define it as being unable to “last” more than one minute and other professionals define it by partner satisfaction.  The American Urological Association has defined premature ejaculation as ejaculation that occurs sooner than desired, either before or after penetration, and causes distress in one or both partners.  In the US alone studies claim that 21%-38% of men will experience P.E. at some point in their life and as long as it isn’t often, you should be fine. However, you could be diagnosed with premature ejaculation if you consistently ejaculate in less than a minute either with sex or masturbation, unable to delay your ejaculate frequently, or avoid sexual intercourse because of the fear of premature ejaculation.  It can be embarrassing and frustrating for not just the man but for his partner too.  It’s been proven to cause relationship problems, low self-esteem, and depression for not only the man but for his partner as well.  The exact causes of P.E. aren’t quite known but factors such as chemicals in the brain, anxiety, depression, past sexual abuse, poor body image, and current medications may play a part.  The good news is that premature ejaculation is not only common but very treatable.
